Amalfi is located in the centre of the Amalfi Coast the most charming coast line in Southern Italy.
One of the most historic towns along the Amalfi Coast, having had a glorious history as a maritime republic whose status joined the ranks of coastal powerhouses like Pisa, Venice and Genoa.
Its importance in that historic trading league is celebrated every year with the Regatta of the Four Ancient Maritime Republics, which takes place every June, alternating among each of the four cities to battle once again for seafaring bragging rights. It´s a spectacular event. The city starts at the water´s edge with a pretty promenade along the Mediterranean and a marina full of colourful boats and their international flags.
The focal point of the historic centre is the Piazza del Duomo, in front of the striking cathedral. The piazza is clustered with sidewalk cafes and elegant shops, but the sixty steps leading to the church beckon to be scaled to visit the Byzantine style structure that bears Moorish-influenced arches and decoration. Dedicated to St. Andrew, the Duomo di Sant´Andrea is a truly beautiful structure. Inside is the hidden Cloister of Paradise, dating to 1266, with a forest of columns, Arabesque arches and an amazing fresco. The crypt is highly decorated and worth a visit, too. The town has a long history as a centre of paper mills, so be sure to stop into the Museo della Carta (Paper Museum) to see how the pretty products were (and still are!) made by hand. There are still some family-owned paper mills that carry on the tradition.
Looking around town and the surrounding hills, you´ll quickly see that the primary product of the area is enormous orbs of lemons, picked fresh to make limoncello liqueur and used in local dishes, as well. The lemon motif shows up in regional ceramics and citrus scent fills the air as you meander about. The Emerald Grotto is one of Amalfi´s natural wonders, at Cape Conca. It emits an eerie emerald hue that emanates from its depths thanks to an underwater crevice that refracts sunlight. Amalfi´s maritime importance continues, as you can hop ferries and hydrofoils to Salerno, Positano and Capri, or you can hire a boat to take you to hidden coves to enjoy a day of private sun and surf. Buses connect the town to Ravello, Positano and Sorrento.

Alternatively you can go to the beach in Amalfi, where you will be able to find all amenities and entertainments, such as shops, banks, post office, bars and restaurants, etc... the sea is beautiful, and you will also find beach facilities, such as cafés/bars and restaurants.
From the docks in Amalfi you will also be able to board ferries and hydrofoils to Positano, Capri, Salerno or Sorrento and Naples, as well as go on mini-cruises around this magnificent coastline. You must indeed take a tour of the coast from the sea !

There are several ways to get to Amalfi / Amalfi Coast from Naples Capodichino Airport or Naples / Salerno Train station either by renting a car or by public transport.
Amalfi is located 25 km (16 miles) west of Salerno and 70 km (43 miles) southeast of Naples. There are many options for how to arrive in Amalfi, but it can be a little complicated for first time visitors. Knowing the options and making your travel plans in advance will start your trip to Amalfi off on the right foot From the Airport Amalfi is about a 90 minute drive from Naples Capodichino airport. The easiest (and least stressful!) way to reach any destination on the Amalfi Coast from Naples airport or train station is to hire a taxi for a private transfer. While it might seem an extravagant expense, the advantages far outweigh the cost. Driving in the Naples area and on the Amalfi Coast road is highly stressful at best. Since public transportation on the Amalfi Coast is easy to use and affordable and parking is expensive and very limited, renting a car is not recommended in general. However, taking public transportation from Naples to Amalfi can be complicated for first time visitors. Arranging for a private transfer reduces the stress of arriving on the Amalfi Coast, and eliminates the expenses and difficulties of driving in the area Ask us for quotation.
Once at the property you can get around fine without the car as parking in the towns is hard to come by and expensive. Public Busses operate year-around connecting Ravello to Amalfi, where are busses to all the Amalfi Coast villages and Sorrento area. Ferries (from May to October) operate a service between Amalfi - Positano - Sorrento - Capri Island - Naples and Salerno.

Particular Notes :
This rental is exactly how it appears in the pictures! The view is gorgeous and accommodations very clean and spacious. The large patio space was the best part. The only down side was the early morning and sometimes late night road noise from motorcycles etc. The noise can easily be controlled by shutting the patio doors and turning on the air conditioning.
We enjoyed the fact that this rental was not in the center of the city and loved the walk back to our place at the end of each day. There is a great beach close by that you can walk to. There are lots of steps down to it but well worth the effort!
Particular Notes :
Beautiful place to stay. Clean apartment, large terrace with stunning view. Good location of the apartment in the center of the Amalfi coast
Local representative, Monika, was very helpful and friendly. We highly recommend this apartment!
Particular Notes :
Wonderful location (with a fascinating view on the everyday necessities of life on this coast, that is: Postautogetute uphill downhill), large terrace with olive trees, spacious apartment (ideal for 2 + 1 persons), very well furnished, friendly service, very good price money.
So, definitely recommended!
